An original oil painting on panel
4 inches x 6 inches
That day, everything was wrapped in snow. The sun was shining brightly, creating an illusion of warmth, but in reality the temperature outside was almost –15°C.
I was looking at the roof of this house, sparkling in the sunlight. It seemed whiter than any white paint. I became curious whether it was even possible to paint that kind of brightness.
After many attempts and repainting, I realized that the light of snow cannot be painted with contrast alone, but also through the interplay of warm and cool colors. Making the light warm, and the shadows cold — that is when the snow begins to glow.
This small painting once again reminded me of the endless laws of painting, which can be studied for a lifetime. And that to achieve a certain effect, sometimes you have to look for “side roads,” because simply copying reality will never lead you to the goal.
